In this episode of The Pharmacy Planet Podcast, host Boo Dhaliwal sits down with one of the most unconventional pharmacists in the profession today: Jesi Moyano.
A pharmacist, motorsport presenter, CrossFit commentator, DJ, entrepreneur, content creator, and motorcycle tour operator, Jesi has built a career that challenges many assumptions about what pharmacists can achieve outside traditional healthcare settings.
From working in community and hospital pharmacy to presenting for Honda Racing, interviewing athletes at major CrossFit competitions, and launching international motorcycle tours, Jesi's story is a powerful reminder that a pharmacy qualification can be the foundation for a career far beyond the dispensary.
The conversation explores career flexibility, entrepreneurship, personal branding, networking, resilience, and why pharmacy professionals shouldn't feel limited by conventional career paths.
Unlike many pharmacists who move directly from school into university, Jesi's journey followed a different path.
She began working in a pharmacy at just 16 years old after leaving school. Within months, she had completed dispensing and healthcare training and quickly realised she wanted to progress further within the profession.
Initially, pharmacy wasn't even her first-choice degree.
Jesi originally applied to study nutrition but narrowly missed the entry requirements. Thanks to her pharmacy experience, Keele University contacted her through Clearing and offered her a place on the MPharm programme instead.
What began as an unexpected opportunity ultimately became the foundation of an incredibly diverse career.
Why Locum Pharmacy Created Career Freedom
One of the biggest themes throughout the podcast is flexibility.
Rather than committing to a traditional full-time pharmacy role, Jesi chose to work as a locum pharmacist across both community and hospital settings.
This approach allows her to organise pharmacy work around her other professional commitments.
She describes booking periods of pharmacy work in advance, fully immersing herself in clinical practice, before switching gears to travel, presenting, events, or entrepreneurial projects.
For ambitious healthcare professionals, locum pharmacy can provide a level of freedom that many other careers struggle to match.
Building a Personal Brand Through Social Media
Anyone who follows Jesi on Instagram quickly realises her account isn't a typical pharmacist profile.
Motorcycles, travel, fitness competitions, motorsport paddocks, presenting gigs, and international adventures sit alongside pharmacy content.
Jesi explains that she made her social media accounts public when she started presenting professionally.
Her goal wasn't simply to gain followers but to document her journey and demonstrate what is possible when people pursue opportunities outside their comfort zone.
Personal branding has become increasingly important for healthcare professionals, and Jesi's success highlights how authenticity and consistency can help create opportunities in unexpected industries.
From Pharmacy Student to Motorsport Presenter
Perhaps the most surprising chapter of Jesi's story is her journey into motorsport broadcasting.
While studying pharmacy at university, she was already balancing multiple jobs, including working in pharmacy, delivering pizzas, and serving in the RAF where she was learning to fly aircraft.
Looking for a new challenge, she applied for a presenting role at charity boxing events.
After interviewing competitors and producing promotional content, other opportunities began appearing.
Her first major breakthrough came in motorcycle racing.
Jesi started presenting at smaller motorsport events before eventually working within the British Superbike paddock and presenting content for Honda Racing.
Interestingly, she wasn't initially a motorcycle expert.
Instead, she positioned herself as an enthusiastic newcomer who could ask the questions many new fans were thinking but felt too intimidated to ask themselves. That fresh perspective helped her stand out.
Breaking Into CrossFit Presenting and Live Events
The same pattern repeated itself when Jesi entered the CrossFit world.
After taking up CrossFit herself, she began attending competitions and quickly identified an opportunity.
First she started DJing events.
Then she offered to emcee them.
Eventually, she became one of the presenters for major competitions, including Watsalona, where she presented to a livestream audience of approximately 85,000 viewers.
Her message throughout the conversation is simple:
You don't always need extensive experience before starting.
Sometimes enthusiasm, preparation, and a willingness to learn can open doors that initially seem out of reach.
The Power of Rejection and Persistence
One of the most valuable lessons from this episode is Jesi's positive attitude towards rejection. She openly shares that many of the opportunities she enjoys today came only after repeated attempts, follow-up messages, and hearing "no" more than once.
Rather than viewing rejection as failure, Jesi sees it as a natural part of the journey. Her success has been built on consistency, visibility, and a willingness to keep moving forward, even when opportunities didn't come immediately.
Keep showing up
Keep improving
Keep reminding people who you are
Keep creating opportunities
Eventually, someone will give you a chance. This mindset of resilience and persistence has played a key role in Jesi's success across multiple industries, proving that determination often creates opportunities where talent alone cannot.
Living a Double Life: Pharmacist by Day, Presenter by Night
Throughout the discussion, Jesi describes what she calls having a "double life."
One week she may be working clinically as a pharmacist, supporting patients and optimising medicines.
The next week she could be interviewing professional riders, presenting international sporting events, or travelling across another continent.
Despite the excitement of her media career, Jesi remains passionate about pharmacy.
She recently expanded her clinical responsibilities by becoming a clinical pharmacist within Spire Healthcare, developing expertise in areas such as perioperative medicines management and anticoagulation.
For her, pharmacy continues to provide purpose, intellectual challenge, and meaningful patient interactions.
Entrepreneurship and Send Zen Tours
As if presenting and pharmacy weren't enough, Jesi has also launched a business with her partner called Send Zen Tours.
The company offers all-inclusive motorcycle touring experiences designed to remove the logistical challenges often associated with adventure travel.
Participants simply arrive and ride.
Accommodation, routes, meals, planning, and support are all arranged in advance, allowing riders to focus entirely on the experience.
The first tours are planned in Colorado, with future expansion into Spain and Colombia also being considered.
The project reflects Jesi's wider philosophy:
Combine your passions, create value for others, and build a lifestyle around experiences rather than limitations.
Bilingual Presenting and International Opportunities
Jesi's Spanish heritage has opened even more opportunities.
Fluent in both English and Spanish, she has presented CrossFit competitions bilingually and helped event organisers increase engagement with Spanish-speaking athletes and audiences.
Being able to communicate across cultures has allowed her to stand out within international events and broaden her professional opportunities far beyond the UK.
For healthcare professionals, it's another reminder that transferable skills often create opportunities outside traditional clinical settings.
Why Networking Creates Opportunities
A recurring theme throughout the episode is networking.
Many of Jesi's opportunities in motorsport, presenting, and business development came through relationships rather than formal job applications.
From Honda Racing to motorcycle touring companies and helmet manufacturers, professional connections repeatedly opened doors.
As Jesi explains, once you start building relationships, one introduction often leads to another.
Networking isn't simply about collecting contacts.
It's about building trust, demonstrating value, and staying visible within your chosen industry.
Is Pharmacy Facing a Reputation Problem?
The conversation eventually turns towards the pharmacy profession itself.
Both Boo and Jesi discuss concerns around pharmacy's public perception and whether pharmacists receive the recognition they deserve within healthcare.
Jesi believes the profession has tremendous value but sometimes struggles to communicate that value effectively.
She also highlights how pharmacy can vary significantly across different regions and settings, with private clinical services increasingly showcasing the wider capabilities of pharmacists.
The discussion raises an important question:
Are pharmacists doing enough to showcase the incredible opportunities available within the profession?
Can Pharmacists Build Multiple Careers?
One of the most inspiring aspects of Jesi's journey is that she hasn't left pharmacy behind to pursue her other passions. Instead, she has used her pharmacy qualification as a strong foundation, allowing her to explore multiple career paths while continuing to make a meaningful contribution to healthcare.
Her story challenges the traditional belief that professionals must be defined by a single role. Today, Jesi successfully balances a diverse portfolio of careers, including:
Pharmacist
Clinical Practitioner
Presenter
DJ
Motorsport Personality
Business Owner
Content Creator
Motorcycle Tour Operator
As she continues to embrace new opportunities, Jesi's journey serves as an inspiring reminder that a career in pharmacy doesn't have to follow a conventional path. For students and pharmacists alike, her story demonstrates that with ambition, passion, and determination, it's possible to build a career that's both professionally rewarding and personally fulfilling.
Jesi's Advice for Future Pharmacists
Towards the end of the episode, Jesi shares her most important message.
Pharmacy offers security, flexibility, transferable skills, and endless opportunities.
But pharmacists shouldn't feel restricted by traditional expectations.
Whether that's entrepreneurship, content creation, consulting, digital health, prescribing, education, media, or entirely new industries, a pharmacy qualification can open far more doors than many people realise.
Her advice is simple:
Figure out what excites you and build a career around it.

Boo Dhaliwal: [00:00:00] Israel or Palestine?
Jesi Moyano: Hey, I'm Jesi Moyano, and welcome to the Pharmacy Planet Podcast
Boo Dhaliwal: Uh, hi, Jesi. Thank you for coming to the Pharmacy Planet podcast. Um, so when I invited you, Jesi, I had a little bit look at your profile, and you're a busy girl, aren't you? Sure am. You're busy. So as well as being a pharmacist, 'cause I had to read, and the reason why I invited you on in the first place, is the sheer depth and breadth of the sort of stuff you're doing, which is motorbike presenter, CrossFit presenter-
a bit of DJ-ing- Just on the side ... a bit of everything. So just tell us a bit about yourself, please, Jesi.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. So I'm not your typical pharmacist that's there checking prescriptions, you know, old-style pharmacist. I'm, um- Yeah. Although
Boo Dhaliwal: we [00:01:00] do a lot more than that now.
Jesi Moyano: We do- Yeah,
Boo Dhaliwal: okay. Yeah.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, we do, we do a lot more than that now.
Um, so yeah, not your typical pharmacist. I work as a locum pharmacist in hospital and community, so that's how I allow myself for so much flexibility to be able to pick up gigs and then drop them as and when flexible around my work life. So, um, yes, I do motorsports presenting is, like, my main forte. Okay.
And then branching off that, I also do live sporting events such as CrossFit competitions. So just last year, I presented to a live stream of 85,000 people for this CrossFit competition, and it was a weekend-long CrossFit competition called Watsalona- Wow ... which was super cool. Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: Did you actually do the competition as well?
Jesi Moyano: No. Oh, right. It's... I couldn't be on the competition- Right ... floor with a microphone and then- That would control you ... doing some clean snatches, so.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay. Okay. So let's just st- The pharmacy bit first. How did you get into pharmacy? [00:02:00] So we'll, we'll take each little section a bit at a time, right? So how'd you get into pharmacy?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. So, ooh, take it back to the very beginning. Um, I started working in pharmacy when I was 16 years old. Okay. So, um, I left school, and then I got a job like my parents told me to do.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay.
Jesi Moyano: And, um, I worked there for a year, but within six months, I'd already completed my dispensing training. I already did my healthcare, and I was like, "Well, okay, what do I do next?"
Um, and then I looked other places where I could go. Okay, I could be a manager. Don't really wanna do that. What's a pharmacist doing? I wanna do that. They're getting paid more money. Um, and the only difference was is that they went to uni.
Boo Dhaliwal: Oh, okay.
Jesi Moyano: So, um, I then took a step back, and then thankfu- thankfully, I had the help from my sister.
She pushed me in the right direction. She was like, "You should go to college. Get yourself an education." Um, so I did that. Um, and then I actually [00:03:00] applied for nutrition. I feel like every pharmacist is always a pharmacist because it's a plan B. Yeah. Most pharmacists are, and I'm, I'm just, like, advocating for that.
Boo Dhaliwal: Wanted to be
Jesi Moyano: doctors
Boo Dhaliwal: or dentists-
Jesi Moyano: Yeah ...
Boo Dhaliwal: and then had to do pharmacy 'cause they flunked it.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah,
Boo Dhaliwal: yeah. But no, not in my case But yeah, that's
Jesi Moyano: You chose it for pure passion.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah, yeah. '
Jesi Moyano: Cause I love
Boo Dhaliwal: it.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. So I, um, I ended up applying to study nutrition- Okay ... originally, and I missed out on one grade. Um, but because I had so much pharmacy experience, the, um, the university contacted me, Keele Uni contacted me through clearing and was like, "Hey, we see you got all this experience.
Do you wanna study the MPharm?" And I was like, "Wait, the MPharm?" Yeah. "I thought it was just a sciences degree." So, um, yeah, and then I went to uni, did pharmacy school Um, and went through that way. But I was always working in pharmacy, so I was, like, the cool, cool kid at uni because I got the [00:04:00] job on the campus university.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah. Oh,
Jesi Moyano: right. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. And, uh, that was a high sought-out after job by all of the pharmacy students.
Boo Dhaliwal: The campus university
Jesi Moyano: job? Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: What do you mean, behind the bar?
Jesi Moyano: No, no. The pharmacy. On- In the
Boo Dhaliwal: pharmacy on the campus?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, there was a pharmacy- Oh, cool ... on campus. Right.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay.
Jesi Moyano: So-
Boo Dhaliwal: The bar would've been a more cooler job, no?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. It's not, not my style. I didn't wanna do the, the late nights. I wanted to go out on the late nights. Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay.
Jesi Moyano: So, it was, like, pharmacy by day in the morning, pharmacist working in the, um ... Well, pharmacy student working in the pharmacy, and then the afternoons would be lectures, and then I'd also go out clubbing.
Boo Dhaliwal: O- okay, so it's a bit more of an unconventional route, right? 'Cause most pharmacists, they do the usual A-levels, apply for university. Uh, so you're ... You, you started work first, right? Mm-hmm. So, it's a bit more unconventional, but it makes it ... It's a bit of a harder barrier, 'cause now you're giving up work, right?
You're giving up work to go study, so it's a bit of a step. Yeah. So, it's a bit of a ballsy decision anyway, right? Mm-hmm. Um, and then I know you've [00:05:00] only recently been qualified. It's only been, like, a year and a half, right? Yeah. I've got that right?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, yeah. Okay. So, I qualified in January 2025.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay.
Jesi Moyano: Um, so I've been qualified a- almost a year and a half now.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay. And I recently, as, uh, as I invited you on, um, I got your Instagram link, and I, I advise everyone to follow this Instagram, because I think Jesi here may well be one of the coolest pharmacists- ... I've ever come across. 'Cause, uh, as I went onto your Instagram, it's like, it's like some sort of Pepsi Max Instagram, right?
You've got, like ... You're jumping off, like, boats and stuff. You got motorbikes in there. You got DJ. You got everything going on- Yeah ... on this Instagram. It's like, it's, like, super cool, right?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: Um, how did the whole ... And it's got quite a following, right? So, you ... It, it's growing and growing.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: Um- Yeah,
Jesi Moyano: it's growing
Boo Dhaliwal: how, how did this whole Instagram ... 'Cause it's ob- you're obviously ... You, you post regularly. Uh, you got a big [00:06:00] following. You, uh, you're doing a lot, so it's, it requires a quite a bit of commitment. Mm. So, how did the whole Instagram thing come about?
Jesi Moyano: Um, Instagram ... I was always posted anyway when I was throughout university, but I only made my account public when I started doing the presenting stuff.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay.
Jesi Moyano: So, um, yeah, I, I'm a big advocate of posting what you're doing and sharing my story and sharing my experiences, and mainly bringing people along on the journey with me and showing what can be achieved. Because if you don't see what can be achieved, then you don't know. Mm-hmm. Um, so I just, I just like sharing, like, cool things that I do.
Um- So, um-
Boo Dhaliwal: Clearly grown from just sharing cool things, 'cause- Yeah ... first of all, you do a lot of cool things. There's a lot of cool things on there.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, riding motorbikes- Yeah, yeah ... is the most recent thing that I'm doing, yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: How did you get into this motorbike gig?
Jesi Moyano: The motorbike gig. So first of all, when I was at university, I already [00:07:00] had three jobs.
So I was working in the pharmacy. Yeah. I was, um, working delivering pizzas for Domino's on a night. Um- Is that on
Boo Dhaliwal: one of the scooters?
Jesi Moyano: No. I didn't, I didn't do it ... I did it in the luxury of my own car- Oh, okay ... 'cause it was winter and it was freezing.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay. Okay.
Jesi Moyano: Um, and then my third job, I was in the RAF. So yeah, I was learning- Anything
Boo Dhaliwal: else?
Jesi Moyano: I was learning to fly planes. Right. Okay. Um, so it was, it was a lot, and then I was like, "I wanna do something else." Right. Um, and then I saw this advert on Facebook for a presenter for charity boxing matches.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay.
Jesi Moyano: So I decided to apply for it. So you know where people train up and they do a six-week course to, to learn MMA, and then fight in the ring for, to raise money for cancer research?
Boo Dhaliwal: I didn't know this.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, so-
Boo Dhaliwal: But I, I know now.
Jesi Moyano: That's the
Boo Dhaliwal: thing. There's, there're probably easier ways to raise money for cancer research rather than- Yes ... rather than MMA.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: Rather ... Yeah. But okay.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, it was- Okay ... it was pretty brutal and- Yeah ... entertaining to watch, I'm [00:08:00] not gonna lie. Right. Um, so I was interviewing the, the winners- Okay
for promo content, and the filmers were like, "Oh, you're really great at this. You could do this. We're working on another project. Do you wanna do this and this and this?" So it all kind of snowballed from there. Um, and then because I had something on camera of me on camera, um, I then used that to take it to bigger companies, and those bigger companies took me on because they were like, "Oh yeah, we can see that you're on camera.
You look really good. You've got the experience." Yeah. And then I got my first job, motorsport job, um, in s- super moto and mini motorbikes. Okay. So I was, um, presenting and doing paddock interviews there. Um, and then from there I went to the British Superbike Paddock, which is like pinnacle of, uh, motorbike racing in the UK.
Um, and then I was working for Honda Racing there, interviewing, uh, riders and presenting a series called Beyond the Blade.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay. Were, [00:09:00] were you into motorbikes anyway?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: So you were ... You must have been a big motorbiker, 'cause you, they're not gonna hire a presenter who doesn't know what she's doing, right?
So you must have known.
Jesi Moyano: Well, funnily enough, Honda-
Boo Dhaliwal: Funnily enough, I didn't know what I was doing.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. No, funnily enough, you're right. Yeah. You're right. I didn't. And the way I pitched myself to Honda was, is that I, I said, "I don't know everything about motorbikes. I'm, I'm not a fountain of knowledge for motorbikes.
But what I can give you is enthusiasm and a smile, and I wanna ask the questions that all the, the newbies in the sport are thinking but don't wanna ask because they're too scared." And they loved my concept.
Boo Dhaliwal: So that was ... When did you start that? That was-
Jesi Moyano: That would've been 2022
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay. And so that's clearly snowballed as well.
Yeah. So you started that while still at university?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. Yeah. Do you have like- And working three jobs ...
Boo Dhaliwal: do you have this study, do you have exams to do?
Jesi Moyano: I-
Boo Dhaliwal: How did you, how did you get time to party if you had all that going on?
Jesi Moyano: I know. I just, you know, I'm just one of those people that [00:10:00] takes things in. Okay.
So I'm such a sponge. Um, and yeah, I got, I got good grades. Um, and I just studied really hard. I worked hard, I play hard, and I'm just have to be busy all the time, so.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay. So now you're a CrossFit presenter as well, right?
Jesi Moyano: Yes.
Boo Dhaliwal: Now are you, you, you big into CrossFit?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, so I, I started CrossFit like three years ago.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay.
Jesi Moyano: Um, and then I was doing CrossFit and then I went to a few CrossFit competitions, saw my friends doing competitions, and then I thought, "Huh, I'm a presenter." Yeah. "I could present this."
Boo Dhaliwal: Right, okay.
Jesi Moyano: And then I actually started DJing CrossFit competitions because I learnt how to DJ at uni.
Boo Dhaliwal: Oh,
Jesi Moyano: okay. Um, and then I was like, "Huh-
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay
Jesi Moyano: we could elevate this event with a DJ." Yeah. Yeah. So I ended up befriending, um, a DJs in the, in the area and, um, then ended up CrossFitting, doing [00:11:00] DJs at, uh, DJing at CrossFit competitions. Um, and then from there I was also like, "Hey, do you want an emcee? I can emcee this." And then- Oh ... before you know it.
Boo Dhaliwal: Wow.
Yeah. Just, just wow. Like, it just seems like in such a small space of time- Whatever is coming up, you just seem to be taking it to a, a, a completely different level. Could you even MC? Have you ever ... You had MCed a little bit before.
Jesi Moyano: I'd, I'd never MCed before. Um, but I, again, I was like, "I can't offer you experience, but I can offer you enthusiasm and a big smile."
Right. And that's just, that was just my way in.
This
Boo Dhaliwal: is your little sales ... This is- Yeah, this is my pitch ... her sales pitch, isn't it? Every time. Yes. "I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm really happy- Yeah ... and I'm gonna give it my all."
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: I was like, "Sod it, that'll do."
Jesi Moyano: This is it. And then they were like, "All right, then we'll give her a chance."
But it's been a lot of knocking on doors, I would say. Okay. It's been a lot of nos, and it's been a lot of knocking on doors. Okay. So I have been rejected a lot. Um, [00:12:00] but as soon as you, you carry on saying like, "I'm here, I'm here"-
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah ...
Jesi Moyano: people do give you the chance eventually.
Boo Dhaliwal: You bug them to death.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. I love
Boo Dhaliwal: it.
Jesi Moyano: That is- And it
Boo Dhaliwal: works,
Jesi Moyano: right? I'm like, "Ding, ding. It's me again." Yeah, yeah. And they're like, "Oh, God, it's Jess here again. Well, someone's gotta give her the opportunity." Yeah. Yeah. So, um, that's what I did with Watsalona, and they were like, "Yeah, we're so glad that, that we, we hired you. You absolutely killed it.
We loved you." Um, and it was a really fun job. I loved it.
Boo Dhaliwal: You fly out there, a few days MCing, DJing, coming back. This is quite a good pharmacist lifestyle.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: This is ... This is quite ... So-
Jesi Moyano: Well, you meet so many people.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah.
That's
Jesi Moyano: a ... And I'm a people person. And then in pharmacy, you kind of just, you're alone as a community pharmacist, and-
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah
it's nice
Jesi Moyano: to-
Boo Dhaliwal: I was gonna bring it onto ph- Yeah, see, you know what's ... Like, I think pharmacy's great, right? Mm. But if I was doing what you were doing, I wouldn't think pharmacy's as great anymore because if I could spend my time doing stuff, I can't [00:13:00] imagine the dispensary being the most riveting-
Jesi Moyano: Yeah
Boo Dhaliwal: place to be, right?
Jesi Moyano: It's not as colorful as a- Yes ... tropical Thailand, for example. I was there December, January.
Boo Dhaliwal: I followed you on it. It's a bit creepy, saying that. I feel like
Jesi Moyano: you
Boo Dhaliwal: know me, right? It's, it is a bit creepy because like, as you post to your Instagram, I was following you, and it was like, number one, I thought, "Wow, she's actually really cool," right?
Number one, she's really cool, and number two, I really wanna go to Thailand. Thailand looked really cool as well. So you should work for their, like, advertising board. Yeah, their tourist board. I reckon you could ... Yeah, I reckon you should bug them to death.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, yeah. I
Boo Dhaliwal: should, shouldn't
Jesi Moyano: I?
Boo Dhaliwal: Get a job there. Um, so yeah, I was, I was
It, it, it's great. I mean, I can't s- I can't stress enough, you, you gotta follow Jess's Instagram. It is, it is, it is great, yeah? So, um- Pharmacy, back to pharmacy, boring pharmacy
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, we digress from Thailand motor
Boo Dhaliwal: tours- Yeah ...
Jesi Moyano: to pharmacy.
Boo Dhaliwal: So, so when you, when you come back, so where are you at the moment? What are you doing?
Um, I think you're hospital pharmacist now?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. So, um, on [00:14:00] top of all of the crazy things that I'm doing, I also got a promotion. Yeah. So, um, I'm now working as a clinical pharmacist at Spire Healthcare.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay.
Jesi Moyano: So I'm one of their bank pharmacists, so it's been a lot of getting to grips with the hospital side of things because my background's mainly community pharmacy.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay.
Jesi Moyano: So, um, I've been really enjoying the hospital role. Um, and then I kinda work in project basis, so I'll be like, "Right, I'm here for two months." I'll book all my shifts in, and then I just lock in pharmacist mode-
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay ...
Jesi Moyano: until I go away again.
Boo Dhaliwal: Is, is pharmacy a bit... It, it probably doesn't tickle your pickle, right?
If it's... After all that, after all, after all that- I mean- ... Pepsi Max stuff you've been doing. Yeah. You'd think it's just a bit, it's a bit dry. No?
Jesi Moyano: Um, mm, I think it takes a while to adjust because sometimes it feels like I have a double life.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay.
Jesi Moyano: So it takes me a couple of days to get back into the flow, but I just slot back into my pharmacist self again.
Um- Okay ... and I, [00:15:00] there is a really rewarding path of pharmacist, um, that I get out of it. Um, it's helping patients and then making them feel like their health is important, and we can come to a conclusion with their health and help them with their lifestyle. So I do, I do really love that side of pharmacy, but as well, I also love the adventurous, crazy, adrenaline lifestyle that I have on the side.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay. So- ... if, like, if you get busier on the, the, the adrenaline nuts side, right? If you get busy on that side, and as with pharmacy is you're gonna have to give it certain amount of commitment as well. If it was either/or- Where would you veer to? Because you probably, uh, there's gonna get to a point where you're not gonna be able to do everything, right?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. Uh
Boo Dhaliwal: You know pharmacy's a nice, normal, stable profession where you'll at, at least you know you've got your-
Jesi Moyano: Mm ...
Boo Dhaliwal: your income's pretty much guaranteed for the month to month, pretty much.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: Um, [00:16:00] w- what do you reckon?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, that's kind of where I am at the moment with pharmacy. I'm, I feel like I'm coming to a fork at the moment.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah.
Jesi Moyano: And to be able to do everything well-
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah ...
Jesi Moyano: um, I'm starting to notice that I'm, I can't, I can't carry on like this. It's not sustainable, um, because I have to do 100% or nothing. Um, so if it came to it, I would never leave behind my, my pharmacist registration. I'd always keep that active, because as you say, that is my bread and butter.
Um, and that's guaranteed work. Um, but then the adventurous stuff, that could be... I'm very aware that that, that lifestyle is not sustainable. It might not last forever, because no one wants, uh, like a 60-year-old woman presenting- Yeah ... a CrossFit championship which is-
Boo Dhaliwal: But you're, you'd move on, right?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah,
Boo Dhaliwal: yeah.
You'd, you'd probably move on to fr- the way you're going, it's like whatever you think you're good at, you're just gonna move on to it. By then you'll be doing whatever [00:17:00] 60-year-old women present. I don't wanna even, uh-
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah, yeah. So, um, if, if I was you, like, i- I think that whole side of it is so interesting.
I could... I've been in pharmacy for, like, 25 years, right? You should do whatever it is else you're doing, because pharmacy is good- Yeah ... it's, but, but it's nothing like that, right?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: It's, it's, it's nothing like that.
Jesi Moyano: It, it doesn't give you as much adventure. Yeah. And I think that's... I am, I'm pioneer. I like adventure.
I like to do something new all the time. I'm not a creature of habit. I don't like my routines. I like spontaneity. Um, so I, yeah, I notice that I'm at a fork at the moment, and especially at this point in time, I'm on the, on, I'm on the pioneering a new project at mo- at the moment. So I'm actually running my own motorcycle tour.
Boo Dhaliwal: Tour?
Jesi Moyano: Tours, yeah. So
Boo Dhaliwal: you'll be literally, [00:18:00] like, uh-
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. I'll be- ... private ... I'll be running it with my partner. Okay. So he's, he's the motorcycle racer- Oh, okay ... and the logistics man behind it.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay.
Jesi Moyano: I'm the person that's doing the, the hosting, the marketing, the social media- Okay ... the bro- making the brochures.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay.
Jesi Moyano: Um, I'm, I'm that side of it.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay. So yours, yours is sales and marketing, and he obviously know- he's probably been on a million tours, right? Yeah, yeah. So he probably know, he probably knows what he's doing.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: So motorcycle tour. Your own moto- so what's it gonna be called?
Jesi Moyano: Send Zen Tours.
Boo Dhaliwal: Sorry?
Jesi Moyano: Send Zen Tours.
Boo Dhaliwal: Send Zen Tour, what?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. So you send it-
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah ...
Jesi Moyano: on the motorbike.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah.
Jesi Moyano: And then you also zen it.
Boo Dhaliwal: Funky
Jesi Moyano: Yeah
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay. Is there anything out, out there like that? I don't know much about motorbike tours
Jesi Moyano: Um, not to the way that we do it
Boo Dhaliwal: All right. Oh, oh yeah.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. So, so for us, we, we, um, use a similar blueprint to Thailand Moto Tours.
Okay So we've been working with them for [00:19:00] a few years now, and, um, we... It's an all-inclusive tour, so the riders don't have to think about anything.
Boo Dhaliwal: Right, okay
Jesi Moyano: They can just, they just turn up. They have the bike rented already.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah
Jesi Moyano: They, we wake up in a new location every day. Yeah We drive, ride to a new location.
You don't have to think about hotels, lunches, breakfast, dinners, coffee stops. Everything's included, and it's just enjoy the ride, enjoy the journey, connect with the people in your group. It's only a small group, so around about 10, 10 people per group.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah
Jesi Moyano: Um, and then just take in the views and just enjoy being chauffeured, really You know,
Boo Dhaliwal: I've actually done one of these things, not motorbike, for a car thing.
I've done a mod- Oh ... yeah, it's called Modball Rally. Um, and it's similar kind of concept- Mm ... where you go from destination to de- destination. Everything's sorted for you. Yeah You just got your next ch- check-in stop- Yeah ... as such. It is a good laugh.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah
Boo Dhaliwal: Honestly, it's really- Yeah ... it's great. It's great. And if you're into motorbikes- Mm
I can imagine [00:20:00] this being awesome.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. Well, it takes away the headache of having to do the logistics. Yeah It's just like, oh, you turn up with a group of like-minded individuals. Yeah By the end of the week, they feel like family, and you've made new friendships. Okay Um, and you, you just, you just turn up and ride.
Um, so yeah, it's, it's, it's really fun, and we love hosting, and we love connecting people, and we love riding, so we wanted to merge the two together. And yeah, we called it Sen Zen Tours because that explains our lifestyle a lot. Both of us are very active and busy bodied and always doing something 100%, but then we're also very zen in the way that we, we are.
We're mindful. We're, we meditate. We're, we're quite, we're quite chill in that aspect
Boo Dhaliwal: Ooh. Um, is this a, is this gonna be a European tour, or is this a UK tour?
Jesi Moyano: So it's gonna be... The, the first ones are in Colorado, so-
Boo Dhaliwal: Colorado?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, America.
Boo Dhaliwal: Keep it local, right?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah,
Boo Dhaliwal: [00:21:00] yeah. Of course. Yeah. I don't have to do things all the
Jesi Moyano: way.
Boo Dhaliwal: Flipping heck.
Jesi Moyano: Um-
Boo Dhaliwal: Right, okay ...
Jesi Moyano: and then, and then we'll be looking at doing some in Europe, so my hometown, Spain, his hometown, Colombia.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah
Jesi Moyano: Um, so
Boo Dhaliwal: yeah Oh, yeah, that's another thing On top of all the other cool stuff, you also speak Spanish as well, right?
Jesi Moyano: Si, hablo
Boo Dhaliwal: español. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I don't know what that means.
I was just nod- nodding my head. It's easy. Hopefully you didn't, hopefully you didn't swear at me. But okay, so-
Jesi Moyano: I think that was on the waiver that
Boo Dhaliwal: I'm not allowed to swear
Jesi Moyano: at
Boo Dhaliwal: you. Okay. Could say
Jesi Moyano: what language.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah. So, um, you are, you are Spanish or you speak Spanish?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, so my mother's Spanish and my dad's English.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay. So you naturally spoke Spanish anyway, right?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: So do you present in Spanish as well? How good is your Spanish?
Jesi Moyano: Well, it's good enough to present a CrossFit championship- Oh ... in Spanish.
Boo Dhaliwal: Oh, right. Okay. So- So when you went to Barcelona you presented it all in Spanish?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, and the two languages.
Boo Dhaliwal: I fucking missed that.
I missed that bit.
Jesi Moyano: Sorry.
Boo Dhaliwal: Two languages. Bilingual.
Jesi Moyano: There was... Yeah, there was Marbella [00:22:00] Championships that I worked the previous year to Barcelona, which is a smaller competition, um, but still, still big nonetheless, and we, we call it the, uh, giddy competition, um, because there's a lot of people that go on that competition, it's a weekend again, um, from the UK.
So they wanted to try get more Spanish people to go to the competition with it being in Spain. Okay. So my kind of project and the reason why I was hired was to interview the Spanish athletes-
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay ...
Jesi Moyano: and then get them talking about it. So get them to share it with their boxes, the CrossFit boxes. Um, and we did.
We increased the Spanish intake for the next year.
Boo Dhaliwal: Have you been hired again for the following year then?
Jesi Moyano: No, they didn't actually. They didn't hire me.
Boo Dhaliwal: Really?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: What's the matter with them?
Jesi Moyano: I know. I was like, "What
Boo Dhaliwal: are you- Yeah, it's like crazy. Like, what more could you have done, right?
Jesi Moyano: Well,
Boo Dhaliwal: I don't- Yeah, exactly.
Exactly.
Jesi Moyano: I don't know,
Boo Dhaliwal: but- Okay. So, um- ... we move on ... and, and you were in St- you were in States on a... [00:23:00] I don't even know what it was. You were, it was like a, a bike Indy 500, right? What was
Jesi Moyano: all that? Oh, Daytona.
Boo Dhaliwal: Right. Okay.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. So the last month I went to America and I went to Moto America and I worked with KYT, uh- KYT
Boo Dhaliwal: KYT
Jesi Moyano: It's a, uh, motorbike helmet company
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay
Jesi Moyano: Um, so I got some interview content for their riders, and just essentially spoke about their journey, highlighting our riders that are, that are wearing the, the KYT lids.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay. So how did you get... H- how did that come about?
Jesi Moyano: Um, well, it... They're the, they're personal friends, the guys that, uh, run the KYT- Oh, okay ... company So you know them? Yeah. We, we know them from Thailand Moto Tours.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay.
Jesi Moyano: So, um, that's how I got that job. It's e- essentially just, like, networking and contacts that you have.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay
Jesi Moyano: Um, but once you start networking, somebody knows somebody that knows somebody else, and then it just, it carries on spiraling.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay. And that's where the tour idea came from, after [00:24:00] that?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay. So have you... Uh, uh, do you have to sell a certain amount of tickets for the tour before it's live? How, how does this work?
Or have you started advertising for it?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, yeah, we've already started advertising. We're, we're pretty confident that we're gonna fill the first two tours. Um-
Boo Dhaliwal: Two tours?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah
Boo Dhaliwal: How many have you got planned?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. Two, two at the moment. Okay Um, and then we'll see how those go, and then carry on planning it as and when.
So we'll just carry on doing new edition. So Zen Zen edition one, Colorado. Zen Zen edition two- ... Spain. Um- Okay ... and just go from there.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay. That's, that's crazy. The pharmacy side of it, I can see this getting dropped quite quickly because, like, you've got so much, so much else going on.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: We can't lose you, Jesi.
can't lose you. It's not, it's not... We need pharmacists like you to remain engaged. What's wrong with the pharmacy profession? Why can't you present something for pharmacy profession?
Jesi Moyano: I [00:25:00] guess I could. Why don't you
Boo Dhaliwal: start a podcast?
Jesi Moyano: You want me to take over?
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah, I could take a break.
Jesi Moyano: Um, I guess, I guess the, what I really like about pharmacy is I love the science and the nitty-gritty.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah.
Jesi Moyano: Um, I love the pharmacology side. I love, I love the nitty-gritty, the science-y stuff, and in community pharmacy, I wasn't using that. Um, so that's why I ended up branching out. I was like, "Right, okay, I need to get a hospital job because I wanna be more clinical." So now I've got my hospital job, I am using my clinical knowledge more so because All the patients that we have in this hospital, it's a private hospital, it's elective surgery.
So we have people that are coming for mainly knee replacements, total knee replacements, total hip replacements, uh, breast surgery. Um, uh, we also have upper GI tract surgery, but those ones are the, are the main ones that we, we offer. So, uh, now I'm an [00:26:00] expert in anticoagulants. Um-
Boo Dhaliwal: But what about presenting job in, in the medical field, no?
Jesi Moyano: Well, I've been, I've been looking at it, but again, it's ... I don't have the contacts- Yeah ... um, in the pharmacy world because I've only been a pharmacist for, what, one and a half years.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah.
Jesi Moyano: And I've been very boxed into either community and hospital, so I'm not being put in front of the right people to then be able to offer presenting abilities.
Plus, I also wanna feel a little bit more educated in my area or field, so I wanna aim on specializing in women's health, specifically, um, ovulatory disorders and menopause. Um, so I want to work on that in the background, and then when I get to a level where I feel like I am an expert in that field and then do my IP, I wanna do my independent prescribing in that as well, then it opens up opportunity for me to comment on it publicly.
Boo Dhaliwal: But I think you can do it anyway, [00:27:00] you know. It's just like you're saying, like you didn't know as much about CrossFit or biking or MC-ing or DJ-ing. Mm-hmm. You know a lot more about healthcare than you do. And if anything, I think, yeah, you're right, you've probably don't, uh, people probably haven't contacted you because they didn't know that there was someone
If I say someone like you, that's not a bad way, yeah? No. They didn't know there was someone- I think that's- They, they didn't know
Jesi Moyano: there's- I dig it. I dig it. Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: There is- No,
Jesi Moyano: that's cool ...
Boo Dhaliwal: they didn't know there was someone like you out there. Mm-hmm. Because you're doing things different, because you're, uh, the way you approach things are different, it's very
The only way I can describe it is un-pharmacist-like, right?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: In a, in a good way. It's un-pharmacist-like, but you're probably thinking that maybe this, you can't do what you're doing in the healthcare field because you think it's probably not, not, either not required- Mm ... nobody wants it, or probably not the norm, but I think you're mistaken.
Do you? I think this is exactly what healthcare needs. And I also think there's a [00:28:00] lot more scope in healthcare. Mm-hmm. A lot more scope because if you think about it, the way we present, the way y- in the healthcare industry, the way we present, the way anyone, um, connects, it's, it's not, it's not engaging, is it?
Healthcare in terms of media is not engaging.
Jesi Moyano: Not at all. And, uh-
Boo Dhaliwal: You can change that.
Jesi Moyano: I could. I could, but-
Boo Dhaliwal: I've got other things to do.
Jesi Moyano: No. It's, uh, it's not that. It's just, I don't ... I feel like- Maybe this is more of like a personal fear- Yeah ... as opposed to what you can actually achieve. But I feel like with, with motorbikes and sport presenting, you can get away with saying, um, certain things.
So for example, if you realize that when I'm cross- when I'm presenting the CrossFit- Yeah ... if I see that lane number five have already finished their snatches and now they're moving on to the worm- Yeah, yeah ... but actually it was lane four that got to the worm before lane five- Yeah ... and I accidentally said that.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah.
Jesi Moyano: [00:29:00] People aren't gonna get me as much for, for that and be like, "Oh, it was just a slip of the tongue, that's okay." But whereas in the medical field, um, I feel like you're open to a lot more liability, um, there.
Boo Dhaliwal: Ah, you're overthinking it. I mean- ... I've been doing this podcast for about a year. I don't think half the stuff we say is probably wrong.
Like, no one cares. You just get on with it, right?
Jesi Moyano: I
Boo Dhaliwal: guess
Jesi Moyano: so.
Boo Dhaliwal: So it's, it's, it's like, it all depends on the type of presentation. If you're gonna s- if you're gonna come across as though you're, you're from the manufacturer and this is the... Then it's different. When it's gonna be a bit more relaxed feel, I think there'll be a bit of leeway.
Mm-hmm. You'll be able to say things that you think are correct. You don't have to be 110%. I think if anything, I think that's the direction you should definitely explore. Mm. And now you've been on the podcast, hopefully if there's anyone out there who's looking for a, some sort of presentation work- Yeah.
Looking for a presenter.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, I heard that the pharmacy show wasn't actually, um, [00:30:00] was a little bit disappointing. I didn't go to it, but, um- Oh ... disappointing in the fact that there weren't as many vendors there. It's not very engaging. Um, so maybe, maybe I could be the plug.
Boo Dhaliwal: May, may, may, may, maybe. Maybe. Uh, the pharmacy show I think has done stuff a lot more...
Pharmacy's a bit more traditional stayed kind of field, right? Yeah. You can't play. It's the people that make it. It's the people at the show, and you've gotta... Like, like you're right. Mm. It probably, it needs a, everything needs a shakeup, right? Yeah. Because things are changing. It's not, healthcare isn't like it was before.
Jesi Moyano: I guess the, the way that I'd want to go with the pharmacy, um, career more so is, is um- work as a, like a remote consultant because then that way I'm still being able to be mobile and doing all my adventurous lifestyle. Yeah. Um, but then also delivering healthcare to people out on their flexible timescale as well.
Yeah. Um, [00:31:00] so I think that's the way that I'm going to. I just don't like being confined to four walls.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah.
Jesi Moyano: Um, and that's what I love about being a locum pharmacist because over the past year and a half, I have gone to so many different pharmacies, worked with so many different teams in so many different dynamics, in different locations, some affluent areas, some r- areas that, um, you see that the minor ailment service is being used a lot more.
Um, and it's been very eye-opening, and I think it's rounded me so much more as an individual to be more understanding, um, and understand how people work, you know? And I've been able to take things from this team and been like, "Okay, they've done that really well. They haven't done this one so well." So I feel like I've gained a lot of knowledge and wisdom from moving around so much that I, I don't wanna give that up yet.
Boo Dhaliwal: Well, I think with your li- current lifestyle, it's the be- it's [00:32:00] given you the flexibility, right? Mm-hmm. So, so it's probably ... You need to stick with it. Yeah. Stick with it. But what I would say is stick with it and try and apply some of the stuff you've learnt outside pharmacy, try and apply that in healthcare.
You'd be surprised.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: I think there's a lot more demand for it than, than you think.
Jesi Moyano: Think it's just finding the avenue and being put in front of the right people that can give that opportunity, or I can just go and build it myself with my social media following.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah, like I had to do. So- No one put me in front of anyone.
I had to do it myself.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, no, and then look at you. You've got your online pharmacy. Like, it's-
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah,
Jesi Moyano: yeah ... it's incredible. I see you've got prescribers as well, and you-
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah, so you know, like, funny you mentioned, um, when you mentioned the flexibility of online prescribe, we have them.
Jesi Moyano: Mm-hmm.
Boo Dhaliwal: So we, we have online prescribers who work their own, their own times, at their own gear, and we have a certain amount of times, and whoever wants to-
Jesi Moyano: Yeah
Boo Dhaliwal: take it, if you're available, you take it, and if
Jesi Moyano: not- Well, it, it seems like- So- ... I'll just do my IEP in September and-
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah, yeah ... come over you. Yeah, yeah. So that's always available. I think that, that side of the, the, the market's
Jesi Moyano: [00:33:00] growing. Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: Is growing.
Jesi Moyano: Hugely. And I mean, I've ... I was running a weight loss clinic, um, in one of the pharmacies that I was working at regularly-
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah
Jesi Moyano: um, before I started going back and forth to America. Um, so I implemented the clinic and set up this weight loss clinic, um, including the, the, the follow-up, the screening, the questionnaires, um, and then administering the, the Wegovy, as- Ozempic, Mounjaro, um-
Boo Dhaliwal: Not Ozempic for weight loss, by the way, but yeah,
Jesi Moyano: go on
no, it was, um, it was semaglutide. Yeah. Um, and it was really interesting to see that I really enjoyed that. Yeah. I really enjoyed that side of it, being able to help people in their journey, um, and using it with diet and lifestyle advice, um, to see how they could come to, to, to a happier, healthier life. Um, so that was, that was really fulfilling, but obviously I had to let that go because I had to-
Boo Dhaliwal: So many other commitments, right?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, travel a lot, so I couldn't commit my [00:34:00] every Tuesday and Thursday
Boo Dhaliwal: no more. Ah, you had to go to Thailand. You had to sit around on- Yeah ... boats drinking cocktails. Yeah. I mean, yeah, like, it's a, it's a hard life.
Jesi Moyano: It's, it's very
Boo Dhaliwal: difficult. It's a, it's a hard life, yeah. I
Jesi Moyano: was, I was stuck-
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah ... between a rock
Jesi Moyano: and a hard place.
Boo Dhaliwal: And all you wanted to do ... Yeah, all you wanted to do was be in a dispensary, right? I know. And, and you had to just fly around the world. It's a, it's a hard life. You
Jesi Moyano: know, writing standard operating procedures. Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: So I've started my own pharmacy revolution. Pharmacy's going through a, a bit of a tough time at the moment.
I think- Yeah ... as generally as pharmacy, we're unrecognized, aren't we? Mm. Don't you think we're unrecognized in healthcare?
Jesi Moyano: I feel like- Pharmacy as a profession is losing a lot of respect.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah. Why is that, you reckon?
Jesi Moyano: Um, I think it's the way... Ah, it's a difficult question. It's like a mix between everything.
It's like a mix between how the general public perceive pharmacists currently. Um, but for example, in the south-
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah ...
Jesi Moyano: um, I think pharmacists are more respected. In the north-
Boo Dhaliwal: You think so? ...
Jesi Moyano: not so much, yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: Really?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, because I feel [00:35:00] like down south you're bringing in a lot more novel, novel therapies and new ways of doing things.
Right. And you're a bit advanced in terms of what pharmacists can do and offer, whereas in the north we're a little bit behind.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay, I think that's probably 'cause of private services probably. Maybe. Probably.
Jesi Moyano: Maybe.
Boo Dhaliwal: When the NHS isn't funding it- Yeah ... I think it's hard. So yeah, so pharmacy's going through a, a tough time, so I've started my own movement.
So it's called Make Pharmacy Great Again. That's perfect. MPGA. It's like MAGA but better. Yeah. MAGA. Make pharmacy great again. Now, in terms... So everyone gets a, you get headwear, and I've only got, I've only got bucket hats at the moment, yeah?
Jesi Moyano: Well-
Boo Dhaliwal: I don't, I
Jesi Moyano: don't- ... I vibe it.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah. I d- I don't wanna... I'm not sure whether I wanna ruin your hair.
It looks perfect. No. It looks pristine at the moment. Get it
Jesi Moyano: on.
Boo Dhaliwal: It looks pristine at the moment.
Jesi Moyano: Look at this. MAGA, Make Pharmacy Great Again. Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: So
Jesi Moyano: make- I feel like I'm ready to go to a festival now.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah. Well, you should be used to it. Uh, do you wanna get your DJ equipment out and like- Yeah ... [00:36:00] we're, we're r- ready to go, right?
Well, do you
Jesi Moyano: wanna start listening to our... I'll whack some- Yeah ... shall we... I fancy, like, chill house vibes today. Hey,
Boo Dhaliwal: look, I'm not cool. Yeah. You could tell me the cool stuff, yeah? You could tell me what's in right now. The '80s music I was listening to is not good nowadays. Um, uh, quick-fire. Oh, merch.
Jesi Moyano: Oh, merch.
Boo Dhaliwal: Loads of merch. The thing is I give everyone merch, right? Uh-huh. I don't know what they do with it. I never see a post on it. I never see anything. At least you've finally got a, a social... I would like to see a post with merch.
Jesi Moyano: I will, I will certainly share your merchandise- Yeah ... happily and gladly- Yeah ... on my social media.
Okay. I'll, uh, take some little funky selfies and be like, "Guys, this is the brand, where it's at."
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah.
Jesi Moyano: That's, that's all we're looking for. And look what else I've got. Look, I've got a, I've got a pen. This will come with me when I go on the ward.
Boo Dhaliwal: That's it. Perfect.
Jesi Moyano: And then I'll get si- patients to sign the, the, the medication form with [00:37:00] the pen, and they'll be like, "Oh, what's this pen?"
"What's going on?"
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah.
Jesi Moyano: I'll be like, "Well, let me tell you about it on a podcast." And what else have I got here?
Boo Dhaliwal: I actually have no idea what they've put in there. What have you both put in there? I don't know. I don't even know what's in there
Jesi Moyano: Oh yeah, it's a mug.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah.
Jesi Moyano: Oh, it's like Christmas.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah. Have you, have you got a water bottle in there?
Jesi Moyano: I do.
Boo Dhaliwal: Do you have a wa- Oh, no, I
Jesi Moyano: don't have a water bottle.
Boo Dhaliwal: Oh, we've gotta get you a wa- I brought my own- This wa- I brought my own
Jesi Moyano: personal
Boo Dhaliwal: water bottle. No, this, this. We'll give you one of these. This is the best.
Jesi Moyano: Oh, wow. This is
Boo Dhaliwal: the best.
Jesi Moyano: No, this is actually a really good water bottle. That is actually a really good water bottle. How many liters is that? Oh, China.
Boo Dhaliwal: Wow. Well, come on. It's
Jesi Moyano: got China
Boo Dhaliwal: liters. We're ph- Come on. We're in pharmacy- Nice ... not finance.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, I'd
Boo Dhaliwal: have told
Jesi Moyano: me about it. Oh, this is nice. Look, I could even put a carabiner on the top of that and then attach it to my bag.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah, so like you're, you're all set with the merch. Right. So now we get to- I'm kicking it ... quick-fire [00:38:00] round. This is really, really easy, Jesi. I'm gonna ... I have no idea what these questions are. They're AI generated, so I only get to read 'em now as well.
Jesi Moyano: The AI
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah. I
Jesi Moyano: love it.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah.
Jesi Moyano: I love it,
Boo Dhaliwal: the
Jesi Moyano: AI revolution.
Boo Dhaliwal: So, yeah, yeah. The reason why is because everyone was talking about ... So I get a lot of health tech people on.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: And everyone's talking about AI, and I wanted to jump on the bandwagon- Yeah ... on the fop, just to be able to say AI. So the only way I could think of it was my AI generated questions. That's as- I love it
that's as AI as I get.
Jesi Moyano: I love how- Right? Okay ... pharmacy is just
Boo Dhaliwal: getting- Yeah, yeah ...
Jesi Moyano: AI incorporated.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay, okay.
Jesi Moyano: Great.
Boo Dhaliwal: Okay. Israel or Palestine? Only joking. Oh. Yeah. I was gonna- That would've got you there. Ooh. That was messy. I'll tell you off camera. Yeah. W- with you. '
Jesi Moyano: Cause I associate with
Boo Dhaliwal: friends.
Jesi Moyano: Oh,
Boo Dhaliwal: God. Right, okay.
Okay. No, I'm only joking. Right. Okay, okay. Uh, do you thrive in chaos or just survive it?
Jesi Moyano: Of course, I [00:39:00] th- Very- It's definitely chaos.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah. How, how is this ... This seems like it j- it's geared towards her. It's like the AI must know you. They must have already have figured it out.
Jesi Moyano: Definitely chaos.
Boo Dhaliwal: It's definitely chaos.
It- But somehow you give it some sort of order though as well, right?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: I- There's a order beneath it ...
Jesi Moyano: I don't know how, but in chaos, I manage to segregate everything and order everything way better. When it's plain sailing, I'm like, "Something's not right here. Something's not right." And then I'll end up making problems out of nothing because it's too quiet.
So if it's chaos, I can box everything together and streamline it, beeline. But
Boo Dhaliwal: just- I think that's what probably makes you a good presenter, right? Maybe. Yeah. Because you, you, you can, you can just- Yeah ... you know, like, just think, think of things just instantly. Yeah. Will go with the flow as such.
Jesi Moyano: Perhaps.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah. Uh, okay, okay. Uh-
Jesi Moyano: Lift your, lift your hat up, please. Little bit, yeah. Perfect. Okay. There you go. You can, you can do a little flap on the top, like, like a little- Flap? ... sun [00:40:00] cap.
Boo Dhaliwal: I'm gonna look like one of them, like, flipping- I need a spring vest. Do I need a spring vest or something?
Jesi Moyano: You look like you're gonna go bowling in the greens.
Boo Dhaliwal: If your life had a title, I'm assuming movie title, if your life had a title right now, what would it be? I've got a title for you.
Jesi Moyano: I would love to know your title for me.
Boo Dhaliwal: I think you'd be a Fast and Furious. Part eight or whatever it was, some other- I think it's nine now. Or is it 10? Yeah. What is it? Nine? I don't know.
Fast and Furious 10. This time it's got a whole, it's Jesi Moyano, the pharmacist. Do you know what I mean? I think that would be your title. What, what, what would you say? If your life had a title right now, what would it be?
Jesi Moyano: Um, I think, I think just someone said to me recently, um-
I said, "I just added another string to my bow with this hospital pharmacist job." And someone replied saying, [00:41:00] "It's not a bow anymore, it's a harp." How many strings do you have? Yeah. Yeah. So maybe Jesi Miano, the string harp theory or
Boo Dhaliwal: something. That's it. That, that's too complicated. Someone's gonna have to- It is
explain
Jesi Moyano: that. Oh, how about just- Stick
Boo Dhaliwal: with Fast and Furious 10 ...
Jesi Moyano: yeah, our tagline- You know it ... where is she now?
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah, yeah. Okay. The, the next one, I mean, this is a bit, this is a bit boring, this one, but I'll, I'll ask it anyway. Move abroad or stay where you are? But you're in Hull, so this is not an easy ... This is not a difficult question, is it?
Is it? No. Really, it move-
Jesi Moyano: I'm only
Boo Dhaliwal: staying- ... move anywhere or stay where you are.
Jesi Moyano: I'm only staying in Hull 'cause the pharmacist rates are good and there's no, there's no demand. Yeah. There's, like, no pharmacists in the area. No, yeah. So.
Jesi Moyano: Even a meal deal's, like, £3 more than average in, in up Hull.
Boo Dhaliwal: Really?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: All right. Okay. Yeah. So move abroad or stay where you are. So yours is probably stay where you are for the moment, 'cause they're good value.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah ...
Boo Dhaliwal: [00:42:00] otherwise move, where would you move to?
Jesi Moyano: Um, Colorado.
Boo Dhaliwal: Really?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: I've never been to Colorado.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: What's it like?
Jesi Moyano: It's the heart of America. It's high altitude-
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah ...
Jesi Moyano: super friendly, very liberal people.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah,
Jesi Moyano: yeah. Um, so-
Boo Dhaliwal: Is that, is that where the skiing, Aspen and stuff is?
Jesi Moyano: Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cool. Yeah, so super nice area is Aspen.
It's, uh- Yeah ... I couldn't afford to live in Aspen. Okay. I couldn't go from Hull to Aspen, so
Boo Dhaliwal: way out of my budget. That would've been a bit of, that would've been a bit of a stretch, right?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. But it's, um, yeah, famous for a lot of skiing. Um, and then, yeah, it's, it's a very nice place. Very hippy, chill, spiritual people.
Boo Dhaliwal: Is, is that where we- weed's legalized there?
Jesi Moyano: It is. Yeah. And it's legalized in quite a lot of states.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah.
Jesi Moyano: Yeah.
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah, it's 'cause common thing in America. Yeah. It's everywhere, isn't it? Yeah, yeah. It's a bit weird 'cause you go into their dispensaries, and they're like little Apple stores and stuff. They, they made it so cool, haven't they?
Jesi Moyano: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. It's like, wow, pharmacies in England could definitely take a few- Yeah ... a few tips from
Boo Dhaliwal: these places. [00:43:00] Yeah, it is. Yeah. Yeah. Um, well, thank you so much, uh, Jesi, for coming on the Pharmacy Planet podcast. It's been great having you.
Jesi Moyano: Thank you for inviting me on. It's been, it's been really nice just to chat-
Boo Dhaliwal: Yeah
Jesi Moyano: about pharmacy and, and how... I think the important takeaway message is that you can balance a lot in life, and it's, it just depends what you want to achieve with your life. And if you're really determined and you want something, you can... There's ways to do it, and pharmacy is a profession that's excellent.
It's a, it's a professional profession. Um, you've got a guaranteed job. You're respected sometimes- Yeah ... with patients, depending on who your patient is. Um, and yeah, you can, you can really make what you want out of pharmacy. Um, there's a lot of freedom there. You don't have to be boxed in a pharmacy, you know?
You... There's other things that you can do.
Boo Dhaliwal: Well, you're really squeezing the most out of it anyway, so-
Jesi Moyano: Yeah ...
