Foundayo and Mounjaro come from the same pharmaceutical family, but they have taken very different approaches to getting into your system. One arrives as a daily tablet while the other prefers a weekly injection and brings its own pen.
Both are prescription-only treatments that can support weight management, but they contain different active ingredients, work on different hormone receptors and follow different dosing schedules.

What Are Foundayo and Mounjaro?
Foundayo is the brand name for orforglipron. It is a once-daily GLP-1 tablet authorised in the UK for weight management and insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes. Mounjaro contains tirzepatide. It is supplied as a pre-filled KwikPen and injected under the skin once a week. It is also authorised in the UK for weight management and type 2 diabetes.
Both treatments influence appetite, helping you feel fuller, reducing hunger and potentially making food cravings easier to manage. Neither one turns vegetables into chocolate cake, sadly, but they may make a reduced-calorie diet feel a lot less daunting.

The milligram figures cannot be directly compared. Foundayo's 17.2mg dose is not automatically "stronger" than Mounjaro's 15mg dose. They are different medicines, so the numbers are not competing in the same weight class.
One Works on GLP-1 and the Other Works on Two Receptors
Foundayo activates GLP-1 receptors. GLP-1 is involved in appetite, fullness and blood-glucose regulation.
Mounjaro acts on both GLP-1 and GIP receptors. GIP is another hormone involved in appetite and blood-glucose control. This difference in mechanism does not tell us which treatment is automatically best for an individual. Your health, treatment history, side effects and personal preferences all matter. More receptors does not necessarily mean more suitable.
Tablet or Injection?
For some people, this may be the deciding difference. Foundayo is swallowed once a day. It can be taken at any time, with or without food, and the tablet should be swallowed whole rather than broken, crushed or chewed.
Mounjaro is injected once a week into the stomach area, thigh or back of the upper arm. Its weekly schedule may appeal to people who would rather think about their treatment once every seven days. Foundayo may feel more approachable if needles are not your favourite members of the medical equipment family. However, it does need to be remembered every day.
Mounjaro requires an injection but gives your medicine routine six days off afterwards.
How Are the Doses Increased?
Both treatments begin at a low dose and increase gradually. This helps the body adjust and can reduce the likelihood of digestive side effects.
Foundayo begins at 0.8mg once daily. The dose may progress through 2.5mg, 5.5mg, 9mg and 14.5mg before reaching a maximum of 17.2mg daily. You remain on each dose for at least 30 days. Mounjaro begins at 2.5mg once weekly for four weeks before increasing to 5mg. If needed, the dose may then rise in 2.5mg steps, with at least four weeks between increases, up to 15mg weekly. Your prescriber will decide whether an increase is appropriate. The top dose is an option, not a graduation ceremony everyone needs to attend.
Which One Causes More Weight Loss?
There is no direct head-to-head clinical trial showing how Foundayo and Mounjaro compare when given to equivalent groups under the same conditions. Both treatments supported weight loss in their respective trials, but those studies involved different participants and methods. Placing the headline percentages side by side would not create a fair comparison. The treatment associated with a larger average in a separate study is not automatically the right choice for you.
What About Side Effects?
Foundayo and Mounjaro can both cause digestive side effects, particularly when treatment begins or the dose increases. These include:
- Nausea.
- Vomiting.
- Diarrhoea.
- Constipation.
- Abdominal pain.
- Indigestion.
Vomiting and diarrhoea can cause dehydration. Contact your clinician if symptoms are severe, persistent or preventing you from keeping fluids down. Seek immediate medical help if you develop severe, persistent pain in your stomach or back, with or without nausea and vomiting. This may be a sign of acute pancreatitis.
Both treatments may also reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives after starting treatment and following dose increases. Speak to your clinician about adding a barrier method or changing to non-oral contraception during the period specified in your medicine's leaflet.
Can You Switch From Mounjaro to Foundayo?
Switching may be possible, but it must be guided by a qualified prescriber. Do not use Foundayo and Mounjaro together or create your own switching schedule. Your clinician will consider your current dose, when you last used Mounjaro, your progress and any side effects. The best option is not simply the tablet or pen with the most impressive headline. It is the treatment you can use safely, consistently and with proper clinical support.
