Elastoplast Wound Spray is an antiseptic wound cleansing product from Beiersdorf, the manufacturer of the Elastoplast range. It is a liquid spray in a 100ml bottle with a pump nozzle that delivers a fine mist directly onto the wound surface. The solution is formulated for cleansing minor wounds, cuts, grazes, and skin abrasions to reduce the bacterial load at the wound surface and support infection prevention as part of routine first aid wound care.

The spray is colourless. This is a practical benefit compared with older antiseptic preparations such as iodine-based products, which leave a visible brown stain on skin and clothing. A colourless antiseptic spray can be applied and the wound area monitored without discolouration making it harder to assess the wound's appearance or condition.

The spray format also removes the need to pour solution onto cotton wool or gauze before cleaning and avoids the mechanical friction of wiping a fresh wound with cloth material. Elastoplast Wound Spray is intended for first aid use on minor wounds in non-clinical settings. It is not intended as a replacement for clinical wound management or for cleaning complex, heavily contaminated, or deep wounds.

Elastoplast Wound Spray is for minor wounds only. Do not use on deep wounds, puncture wounds, burns covering a large area, animal bites, or wounds with foreign material embedded in them. These require clinical assessment. Do not spray into the eyes. Keep away from mucous membranes. If the wound shows signs of infection after initial cleaning, increasing redness, swelling, warmth, offensive discharge, or fever, seek medical advice rather than continuing to self-treat.

Antiseptic Action

The spray solution contains an antiseptic active ingredient that acts against bacteria commonly found at wound sites. Antiseptics work by disrupting bacterial cell structures or interfering with the processes bacteria need to survive and replicate, reducing the number of viable bacteria present on the wound surface after application. This reduction in bacterial load at the time of initial wound cleaning lowers the risk of the wound becoming infected during the early healing period.

Spray Delivery Mechanism

The pump nozzle delivers the solution as a fine mist that covers the wound surface and surrounding skin. The spray action allows physical flushing of loose dirt, debris, and surface bacteria from the wound alongside the antiseptic effect. Before Using

• Wash your hands before treating a wound if possible.

Application

• Hold the bottle upright with the nozzle directed at the wound.
• Spray directly onto the wound and the surrounding skin from a short distance.
• Allow the solution to cover the wound surface fully.
• Allow the wound to dry briefly after spraying.
• Apply a sterile dressing once the wound has been cleaned.

Frequency of Use

• Use at each dressing change to clean the wound.
• Continue until the wound has healed or until clinical advice is sought.
• Do not use on wounds that are worsening or showing signs of infection without seeking clinical advice.

Do not spray near the eyes or directly into the face. Avoid inhaling the spray mist. Keep the bottle away from open flames - the spray is pressurised. Do not pierce or burn the can even when empty. Store upright.

Elastoplast Wound Spray 100ml

Do Not Use If

• The wound is deep, large, or contains embedded foreign material.
• The wound is a puncture wound, animal bite, or human bite.
• There is a known allergy or sensitivity to any component of the spray.
• The wound is on or near the eyes or mucous membranes.

Precautions

• For external use on skin only.
• Keep away from eyes and mucous membranes.

Adverse Effects

When a Wound Needs Clinical Attention Rather Than Self Treatment

Minor cuts and grazes are suitable for home management with an antiseptic spray and a clean dressing. Wounds that require clinical assessment rather than self-treatment include: wounds that are deep or gaping and may need closure; wounds caused by objects that may have left debris behind; animal or human bites, which carry a significant infection risk; wounds on the face, hands, or joints; wounds in people with conditions that impair wound healing such as diabetes or immunosuppression; and any wound that is not improving or shows signs of infection after a few days.
